John's production efforts were almost all amateur in several low-end and home studios similar to those in the pictures he and a friend had in the late 70s and early 80s. His "15 minutes" came in 1981 with a production of an EP by a Sydney band he was a member of at the time, The Particles, called Advanced Colouring featuring the tracks Truth About You, Bits Of Wood and Remington Rand in an 8-track studio at Sydney University where the band got 3 weeks of free time. The EP received quite a lot of airplay on radio JJJ, some good reviews and respectable indie chart positions.

If you would like to hear the tracks in MP3, use the links below.

Please e-mail John if you would like an audio cd of the EP. I only have couple of the 7" vinyl copies left but I still have the EMI test pressing :)

From 1988 to 1991 John played live one night a week in couple of bars in the center of Sydney in a duo with Dominic Halpin who later formed the band Paris Dumper.

Dominic had a fairly fancy cassette multitrack and John, Dominic and Roddy Lee recorded number of original songs including one of the few songs John wrote. If you would like to hear an MP3 of a demo Dominic recorded of the song, use the link below.
