Career Overview

Following high school, John attended Sydney University and in 1981 graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Computer Science. During the last year of his university studies and following graduation John worked as a systems analyst/programmer for a divison of CSA (Computer Sciences of America) specialising in software for the mining industry. Most of this time he worked on large Management Information Systems for Hunter Valley (New South Wales) coal mining companies.

This was followed by several years of contracting, designing and programming vertical market applications for small businesses using dBASE. In 1987 John started to work for Computerland in Sydney initially as a sales consultant and then handling complex installations and technical support.

Since 1991 John has been working in his own company, JMV Computer Services Pty Ltd, initially specialising in pre-press activities and computer support, moving in the mid-nineties to Internet related activities with focus on the World Wide Web.

Since 1995 the company has built and taken on a maintenance role for a number of sites including those of large corporate clients such as Coca-Cola South Pacific, Canon Australia and Lucent Technologies Australia. Among other activities since the end of 1999 John has also had the job of webmaster for the web site of distributed.net (http://www.distributed.net/), a large international distributed computing group based in the USA which has recently joined forces with United Devices, a leading company in development of commercial distributed computing applications.

John has extensive experience in the field of e-commerce with majority of the sites he has worked on having an e-commerce aspect or orientation. He has set up and operated e-commerce solutions ranging from simple order forms to direct web-form-to-bank-account credit card clearing facilities.

Recent work has been increasingly in the field of Business-To-Business (B2B) web-based systems and particularly the area of Digital Asset Management and Online Distribution of Digital Assets, most of this work in partnership with Logozone Australia (http://www.logozone.com/) on systems for Coca-Cola South Pacific. John also manages the web sites of a number of small business clients in a diverse range of businesses providing each client with an economical client-driven way to cost-effectively build their online presence.
